Installing the Fortinet CA SSL Certificate
Overview
To eliminate browser warnings and allow Fortinet to inspect traffic securely, install the CA SSL certificate on your device. Download the certificate directly here: Fortinet_CA_SSL.cer.
Windows Installation
Download the Fortinet_CA_SSL.cer file to your computer.
Double-click on the file to open the Certificate Import Wizard.
Select "Local Machine" (for all users) or "Current User" as needed, then click Next.
Choose "Place all certificates in the following store."
Click Browse, select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities," click OK.
Click Next, then Finish.
Accept any prompt to confirm the installation.
Restart the browser for changes to take effect.
macOS Installation
Download the certificate.
Open the "Keychain Access" app (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access).
Drag and drop the Fortinet_CA_SSL.cer file into the Keychain window or use File > Import Items.
For optimal scope, select "System" keychain when prompted.
Locate the certificate (search for "Fortinet") and double-click it.
Expand the "Trust" section and set "When using this certificate" to "Always Trust."
Close the window and enter your macOS password to authorize changes.
Linux Installation
Download the certificate.
Move it to the certificate directory (e.g., /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/).
Rename it if necessary to Fortinet_CA_SSL.crt.
Run sudo update-ca-certificates to update the trusted root store.
Restart your browser or system as needed.
iOS Installation
Email the certificate to your iOS device or download it directly.
Tap the file, then tap "Install" and follow prompts.
After installation, go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings.
Enable full trust for the "Fortinet" certificate.
Other Possible Steps:
It might go to your downloads folder. If so you will need to do some extra steps.
- In the downloads folder tap the file
- Then tap the drop down arrow at the top
- Tap share button, square with an arrow pointing up
- Tap save to files
- Then tap save in the top right
- Then open the Files App
- Tap the file
- On Choose a device pick iPhone
- Go to Settings - General - VPN and Device Management
- Tap the long name that starts with an F
- Tap install
- Then go to Setting - General - About - Certificate Trust Settings
- You should see the profile for the certificate
- Tap it and then toggle it on
Android Installation
Email or transfer the certificate to your device.
In Settings, search for "Install from storage" in Security settings.
Select the downloaded certificate and name it (e.g., "Fortinet_CA_SSL").
Confirm and authorize if prompted.
Restart the browser or app.
Troubleshooting Tips
If certificate errors persist, ensure the certificate is in the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" store for your system.
For managed or enterprise environments, push the certificate centrally using Group Policy or a device management platform.
